おいしい雌鶏を指す「かしわ」という言葉がそのまま品種名になった鶏。現在の黒柏はその名の通り黒色が主流ですが、山口県には白色の白柏、兵庫県には播州柏と呼ばれる赤柏が少数残っています。

The word Kashiwa in the name refers delicious female chicken. They are now mainly black same as its name, but there are a few white ones called Shiro Kashiwa in Yamaguchi and red ones called Banshu Kashiwa in Hyogo prefecture.
