The Danish sortbroget pigはデンマークのフュン島で飼育されていた。典型的な田舎のブタで、一年中外で飼うことができた。寿命が非常に長く、あるメスは36年生きたとされ、ブタの最長寿命記録を持つ。The Danish sortbroget pigはそれほど大きくなく、体長140-160 cm、体高65-75 cm、体重130-160 kgほどである。垂れ耳で体に黒い斑点があるほか、ヤギのように特徴的な皮膚の突起が、下あごと首の間にふたつある。このため別名“ベルピッグ”(Bell pig）とも呼ばれている。かつてはデンマークで多く飼われていたが、現在では非常に希少な種で、デンマークの一件の農家と、ドイツの二か所の家畜動物園で飼育されているのみである。世界で現存するのは約160頭のみと推定されている。

The Danish sortbroget pig was bred on the Danish island of Funen. It is a typical country pig and can be kept the whole year outside. Their longevity is remarkable and one sow of this breed keeps with 36 years the longevity record for pigs.
The Danish sortbroget pig is not too big and heavy. It is 140-160 cm long, has a withers height of 65-75 cm and a weight of 130-160 kg. This breed is a black spotted pig and has large lop-ears. The breed has like goats two characteristic skin nipples between the lower jaw and the neck which gave them also the name “Bell pig”.
The breed was in former times quite common in Denmark, but today it is extremely endangered. Only one Danish farmer and two livestock zoos in Germany keep this breed and it is estimated that worldwide only about 160 animals still exist.
