江戸時代に突然変異で生まれた品種。3cm程度しかない短い脚が特徴。名前の由来は、農民が地頭職に献上していたからという説と、「じとっこ」と呼ばれるミミズクに似ていたからという説があります。
Jitokko the Japanese Creeper

Were born in a mutation in the Edo period. Have short legs only about 3 cm. They were named Jitokko because farmers used to offer them to their landowners (Jitoushiki), and also because they look like horned owl called “Jitokko”.
