キャッスルミルク・ムーリットは原始的な品種で尻尾が短い。主に観賞用に飼育されており、白い腹と尻が特徴。メスの角は後向きに広がっているが、オスは立派ならせん状の角を持つ。毛は通常、抜け落ちているか、抜かれている。
この種は1900年代初期にスコットランドで飼育され始めた。1973年に群れが分散し12頭が存在するだけとなった。その後、コッツウォルズのファームパークでの慎重な繁殖計画によって個体数は再び増加し、現在ではイギリスで800頭のメスが飼育され、またオランダとベルギーでも飼育されている。
Castlemilk Moorit sheep
The Castlemilk Moorit is a short-tailed primitive breed. It is kept mainly for its ornamental appearance and has a distinctive white belly and rump. The ewes have horns turning back and out, whilst rams have heavy spiralled horns. The fleece is usually moulted or plucked.
The breed was established in the early 1900ies in Scotland. In 1973 the flock was dispersed and only 12 sheep survived. By a very careful breeding programme of the Cotswold Farm Park, the numbers have increased again. Today, there are again 800 breeding females in Britain and another stock in the Netherlands and Belgium.
